At the beginning of the year, construction began on the West Gate Tunnel Project.

I was delighted to attend the opening of the northern portal project site on Whitehall Street, Footscray, not too far from my office. I have also visited the second site on Somerville Road, Yarraville.

These two sites will create over 500 direct jobs in their peak construction phase. Overall, the project is set to create over 6,000 jobs across multiple sectors.

This will mean so much for areas in the west who have been hit hard by the loss of manufacturing. Please see the link below relating to local job opportunities for the west:

Job Opportunities

This project will transform how people get around in the inner west. It will ease congestion, take trucks off inner city roads and boost productivity.

However, with all major projects, there will be disruptions.  Please see below information on traffic changes:

Travel disruptions

The Liberals are continuing to make attempts to undermine and end this project. I have been fighting hard in the parliament to see this project completed for our community.

In March we saw the Liberals and Greens put this project in jeopardy by teaming up in the legislative council. I’m glad to say that we are back on track and this project will be built on schedule.
