CONSTITUENCY QUESTION | HOSPITALS FEDERAL CONTRIBUTION

Mr MELHEM (Western Metropolitan): My constituency question is to the Minister for Health, the Honourable Jill Hennessy. I note the recent leaked report which detailed the federal government’s plan to short-change Victorian hospitals by $2.1 billion. This plan will see the federal coalition government limit its hospital funding contribution to 45 per cent, well short of the former Labor government’s commitment to raise the contribution to 50 per cent. There will also be a cap on spending, irrespective of the sector’s needs and expected population growth. My question is: what will this proposed funding model mean for hospitals in my electorate of Western Metropolitan Region?
